I have a copy of the first ever chinese animation: Princess Iron Fan. This is of great historical value but very hard to find, so having archive.org host it would be great. I believe that China did not have any copyright law at all in 1941 and that, given that it is 65 years old, any laws past since then (the first copyright laws came about something like 1991) do not work retroactively 50 years. I am however not a lawyer, and would like someone to comment on this.

Post it and tell the Chinese that if they stop bootlegging and pirating our stuff, we'll pull the movie! Unless it exposes the blatant contradiction of their so called communism/capitalism government, I doubt they will even notice. I think legally you are correct in your assumptions anyway, I'd like to see it.

Yes, it is in public domain the copyright law for chinese works lasts 50 years from publish date.
